Local author Ritter in Eastham Thursday

Local Cape Cod author Dwight Ritter will present a talk on his book, “Growin’ Up White”, on Thursday, March 10, at 7 p.m. at the Eastham Historical Society's Schoolhouse Museum, 25 Schoolhouse Road, in Eastham, across from the Cape Cod National Seashore's Salt Pond Visitors Center.

“Growin’ Up White” is described as "a fascinating story of the immense impact that Georgey, a middle age black housekeeper has on a white family. Inspired with extra doses of homespun religion, she shapes the family of Wayne Stoner, a physician, his wife, Lillian, nationally known concert pianist and their three rebellious sons. Because of Dr. and Mrs. Stoner’s busy lifestyle their children are periodically absorbed into Georgey’s all-black neighborhood. There they develop many friends and a multi-racial point of view. However, Indianapolis is not ready for integrated mindsets. The story takes place during the Civil Rights era but has lessons for all of us to learn in today’s culture."

“Growin’ Up White” is Ritter's 14th book, which spans a prolific career as a writer and graphic designer. Educational curricula, children’s books, children’s television, fiction, business books, lyrics for tv commercials, and magazine articles illustrate his varied interests.
