Eastham Hiking Club season winds down


The Eastham Hiking Club has posted its schedule for the rest of the hiking season, which runs through May 25. The hiking schedule will resume after Labor Day.

The hikes start at 9 a.m., and are FREE and open to the public. Rain and heavy snow CANCELS.

Hikes are 4 to 6-1/2 miles in 2 to 2-1/2 hours on wooded paths with some soft sand and hills.

For optional carpooling, meet at Orleans (south of rotary) Stop & Shop, left lot off main entrance.

April 13: Truro – Clay Cliffs Carpool 8:10 (One way hike) New Hike. Leader(s): Mark. Route 6, R at Longnook Road (1.2m after Pamet Rd exit) and follow to parking lot at the end. Carpool to start. Hike around Highland Light, then a long beach walk beneath the high, dramatic and scenic Truro clay cliffs. April 20: Brewster — Nickerson, Ruth Pond Leader(s): Chuck. Rte. 6A to Nickerson entrance. Continue on entry road for 1.8 miles to Fisherman’s Landing entry on left. Walk woodland trails and fire roads around Cliff, Higgins and Little Cliff ponds. April 27: Truro — Ballston Beach, North. Carpool, 8:20 Leader(s): Don & Bob. Rte. 6 to Truro, Pamet Roads exit, right, then left to South Pamet Rd., parking lot at end of road. Bearberry Hill, north ocean cliffs, Ball estate, Old Kings highway and cranberry bog.

May 4: Truro - George Nilson Rd., Paradise/Lombard Hollows — Carpool 8:25 Leader(s): Don & Bob; Rte. 6, .4 mi. past Truro town line, take left on George Nilson Rd., park on either side of road. Hike through woodlands and scenic hollows to Bay at Ryder Beach and back (2 1/2 hours).

May 11: Provincetown - Visitors Center, Old Harbor Station (Carpool 8:05) Leader(s): Chuck. Rte. 6 to Provincetown, right at first traffic light onto Race Point Rd. Visitors Center is 1.3 miles on right. Hike sand dunes and ocean beach to Old Harbor Life Saving Station. Lots of sand.

May 18: Truro – East Harbor, Walk around the harbor (Pilgrim Lake) — Car Pool 8:15 Leader(s): Mark. Exit route 6 at High Head Road. Take first left fork onto dirt road to parking lot at end. Walk the dunes, cross Rte. 6 and walk the bay beach.

May 25: Brewster – Nickerson Park, Main Entrance. Leader(s): Don & Bob. Rte. 6A to Nickerson State Park entrance. Park in lot on immediate right. Scenic woodlands walk passing several of Park’s premier ponds. This includes the end of season picnic; bring a picnic lunch and maybe something to share.
