Author and storyteller Bob Ryder will talk about his "Voyages From Chatham" as told in his recent book at the Chatham Historical Society’s Atwood House Museum on March 18.

A list of nature, history, and other events of that sort on the Outer Cape for the week of March 12:

MONDAY, MARCH 12 The fate of Liam’s Snack Shack in Orleans is reportedly set to be decided during a meeting at 5:30 p.m. High surf from the recent northeasters is threatening the eatery’s safety on the beach. The meeting is at Orleans Town Hall, 19 School Rd., Orleans.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 14 Weather permitting (in other words, no rain or accumulating snow), the Eastham Hiking Club is scheduled to take its weekly walk at 9 a.m. This week’s destination wanders through the Marconi Station, White Cedar Swamp, and Cook's Cottage area of the Cape Cod National Seashore in Wellfleet.

THURSDAY, MARCH 15 The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History hosts “Birdwatching for Beginners” at its Route 6A location in Brewster from 10 to 11 a.m. Gretchen Moran Towers presents basic skills designed to enable bird identification through sight and sound, and an opportunity to venture outdoors to view the birds in their natural habitat.

SATURDAY, MARCH 17 Cape Cod Community College in West Barnstable hosts the 23rd annual Cape Cod Natural History Conference at Tilden Arts Center from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Massachusetts Audubon Society’s Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary organizes this all-day conference featuring presenters from environmental organizations across Cape Cod speaking on a diversity of natural history topics, including Vulnerability of Humpback Whales to Ship Strike and Entanglement in Waters around Cape Cod, The Cape's Secretive and Elusive Marsh Birds, and much more.

SUNDAY, MARCH 18 Author and storyteller Bob Ryder will talk about his "Voyages From Chatham" as told in his recent book at the Chatham Historical Society’s Atwood House Museum, 347 Stage Harbor Road in Chatham, at 2 p.m. Captain Ryder will share stories about his life on the water, as a child, teenager, husband, father and crewman in the commercial fishing business.

Don's Outer Cape Calendar will post events for the week on this blog each Sunday. E-mail Don at donwilding@gmail.com if you'd like your event to be listed here.
